It’s been 50 years since my beloved Astros came into existence. Back in 1962 they were the Colt .45s and they played in a temporary stadium on the salt grass prairie south of downtown Houston. It was small, the mosquitoes were terrible and the heat was ungodly. Much has changed since then, both in the business of baseball and the facilities in which it is played. Still, it’s baseball and nothing beats that!

And I was at the first major league baseball game ever played in Houston on April 10, 1962. I’ll mark that anniversary tomorrow night at the Astros game at Minute Maid Park tomorrow evening at the season opener.

Meanwhile, let’s look back a half century…
